My Journey into Medicine: From Childhood Dreams to Reality

Introduction:

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a dream of becoming a doctor. But, like many kids, my aspirations bounced around a bit before settling. Here’s how my journey unfolded from childhood fantasies to the reality of practicing medicine.

Childhood Inspirations:

As a kid, I wanted to be a soldier, armed with toy guns and rubber bullets from my mom. Then, I fancied myself an artist, sketching cars that made my dad proud. But everything changed when I learned about my elder brother, who I thought was a cousin, studying medicine. That’s when I decided I wanted to be my mom’s doctor. My dad’s nickname for me, “young doctor,” only fueled the fire.

At 15, I stumbled upon Ben Carson’s “Think Big,” and that was it—I was hooked. Carson became my hero, and “doctor” was my go-to answer for every dream career question. The dream was set in stone.

Challenges in Medical School:

Medical school was tough—really tough. The mountain of notes was overwhelming at first. But by my second year, I found my rhythm. I discovered what study methods worked best for me and built a supportive circle of friends. Together, we navigated the demanding curriculum and celebrated each other’s successes.

The Transition to Pre-Internship:

Fast forward to now—I’m a pre-intern doctor. After finishing medical school, I’m applying my knowledge and skills in the real world. During my rotations, I gained invaluable hands-on experience, and now I’m learning even more from seasoned professionals. Every day, I get to contribute to patient care and soak up new lessons.

Daily Experiences and Reflections:

Working in the hospital daily has only deepened my passion for medicine. From routine check-ups to assisting in complex procedures, each day is filled with new challenges and opportunities. It’s demanding but incredibly rewarding. Every patient interaction reminds me why I chose this path.

Conclusion:

From dreaming of being a soldier or an artist to embracing the calling of medicine, my journey has been an adventure. As a pre-intern, I’m excited to continue learning, growing, and making a difference in patients’ lives. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next.
